My responsibility vis-à-vis my geese is that I can't release them back into the wild. Even if I had the permits to do so I wouldn't because these animals have been brought up by humans and have bonded with them and this bond must be maintained, it must always be there. Anyway, my geese wouldn't know what to do in the wild. They'd go and knock on
somebody's door to get food and attention and to talk to people. By imprinting my birds I'm aware that I've given them a handicap: they can't return to the wild and they'll never be able to interact with wild birds. So yes I feel responsible for them; I have to find homes for them, I have to take care of them; I have to keep them connected to other human beings,
to the people who take care of them day in and day out.
