What actions can we take to help preserve nature?

How can we do our fair share to help protect nature and wild species? A good way to evaluate our impact as consumers on the health of wildlife and the environment is to learn more about our imprint on the ecology. This indicator of human impact on the environment was first elaborated in 1996 by Professor William Rees of the University of British Columbia (UBC). This ecological imprint determines what level of natural resources a given population needs to consume. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), by the year 2050 humankind will consume a level of natural resources equivalent to that of two planets like earth. The data is alarming. Right now, it takes planet earth a year and three months to produce what human activity consumes in a single year.
